Our on farm production sale was held on 9th of Sept.

The top priced ram was a

total shedding Type 3 and sold for $1,300.

Congratulations and thank you to all who were involved.

WELCOME TO OUR WEBSITE

It’s been a while between updates but things

have been busy on the farm as usual.

There have been a few changes on the site

so have a look around.

Don’t forget to send us any

feedback or questions you may have.

Enjoy!

We hand milk our ewes after weaning to trait score

udder conformation, assess milk quality & quantity

as well as reduce mastitis risk.

The milk can be kept frozen until there is enough

to make a batch of cheese.

We have made many different types of cheese with our milk.

Our favourites are our Pecorino, Fetta and Camembert

(or as we aptly name it—Camembaa).

DORPER TOUR IN

SOUTH AFRICA & NAMIBIA

In August 2009 we went on a special Dorper group tour

to Namibia and South Africa to source outstanding

breeders genetics and also to complete further

Dorper assessment qualifications.

Another Dorper breeder, Richard Knights was also on this tour to complete his Fellowship to assess Dorpers for use in Australia’s arid country and his very interesting

report is linked below.

It has now been well documented that Dorpers can thrive where other breeds are unable to survive. It has also now been well documented that Dorpers can also thrive in wetter grazing country but for entirely different reasons, not least of which are to do with animal welfare issues. In these southern areas flystrike, parasites and footrot are simply not a concern for Dorpers like they are for many other breeds.

We learned a great deal from the Namibian & South African Dorper breeders and their  warm hospitality will long be remembered.
